Persevering a Pandemic-Impacted Job Market

Brittany began working full-time at Condé Nast Entertainment in July 2020, just 2 months after she graduated. This role lined up with her goals of programming and allowed her the opportunity to dive into partner management as their Linear & OTT Operations Associate. OTT, meaning over-the-top; OTT is a direct-to-consumer video content platform where premium content and a superior experience are available for customers to stream on-demand via any device. Think standard cable, but you're streaming it!

Brittany immediately managed 24/7 operations for one OTT brand channel for Bon Appétit (BA) and 2 CTV (connected TV) apps for BA and WIRED, and was responsible for the technical delivery of feeds to multiple connected tv platforms. She oversaw partner relations and troubleshot distribution workflows with partners and internal teams, including asset delivery, metadata, and syndication approvals. Brittany strategically programmed branded and special content from deals, promotions, and events (Met Gala, brand deals, daypart programming, themed/holiday promotions, etc.).

Brittany redesigned the channel and apps based on the currently available content and revamped how viewers consumed content. On the Bon Appétit channel alone, Brittany's strategies amassed over 1.5 million monthly viewers. This growth allowed Brittany to take on a Project Manager title in creating a new OTT channel for GQ and GQ Sports. This project took the majority of 2021, and Brittany oversaw the launch, partnerships, technical troubleshooting, and programming of the channel prior to her departure in December 2021.

Moving Up

Brittany left her role at Condé Nast to pursue a Manager title just under a year and a half after graduating. Wanting to understand the revenue and marketing strategy side of the industry to get a better grasp of overall content strategy and business development, she embarked on this new opportunity as a Media Strategy & Planning Manager at Audacy, where she currently works full-time.

Here, Brittany directly develops media campaigns leveraging any and all of Audacy’s assets including streaming audio, podcasts, and broadcast radio advertising. She works directly with Account Executives, advertising agencies, and other media clients to analyze and effectively respond to RFPs, and identifies solutions to help clients solve business objectives, and build win-win media plans in support of their goals. Brittany also collaborates with internal partners and sales teams on pitch development and strategy. As a manager, she provides internal leadership related to strategic thinking and best practices, and supports the ongoing analysis and reporting of existing business marketplace activity.

A Need for Creativity

Brittany took non-creative roles after graduating as a result of the pandemic limiting on-site creative positions. Although she enjoys the experience she's getting, her heart is in creativity. Across her experience; between internships, freelance opportunities, studies, and more, Brittany's background spans radio, television, film, and social and digital video.

Combining her love of production and creating video content and her knowledge of radio and television programming and marketing strategies, Brittany decided the best combination was to start diving into the world of social media. Over the course of roughly a year, Brittany began deeply researching platform strategies and operations across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and other platforms. Getting a deeper understanding of SEO practices, users, trends, hashtag and posting strategies, content types, niches, and more, Brittany felt that she had obtained enough substantial research to start enacting those practices.

Brittany officially began freelancing as a UGC (user-generated content) Producer and Social Media Manager in March 2022. Her first client was a financial tech start-up called Nespy. Brittany created video content for TikTok, still image content for Instagram, posting strategies, and schedules/content calendars. Unfortunately, as of May, their investors pulled out and all operations paused.

In June, Brittany freelanced with a small social media content agency, Strawberry Milk Media. Here, she was on-set on content days for clients creating videos with trending audios, behind-the-scenes content for the agency, and styling products. Her videos are featured on both the agency's and clients' social media.

Currently, Brittany is in-between clients for one-off brand collaborations creating UGC videos,  doing product photography, and developing posts for a wide variety of brands across platforms. She is looking forward to pursuing social media management and content creation as time goes on, and is looking for long-term opportunities.
